About Us
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” So begins Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, and so it is still today. On every side we see opportunities for happiness intermingled with horrific mistreatment of each other as we crash or creep through our so-brief lifetime. Is there a God in the midst of all this and, if so, what is He thinking?
In fact, the universe is a continual creation process of the Lord God Jesus Christ. He has come in person not just once, but twice, to explain our destiny in it. In His great love He yearns to help us know the full potential of the life He has given us. But, in His deep wisdom, He came so quietly and gently that much of the world has never really paid attention to Him. Some who have heard Him have twisted His message to serve their own ends. Others have ignored Him outright and restlessly, furiously, or futilely sought happiness from false gods of pleasure and power. Under His axiom of spiritual free will for humankind, Jesus permits all such deviations and distractions to occur. Everyone can, indeed must, choose who they are in their eternity, which isn’t someday but begins right now. The choice of pain and corruption and bondage to Hell’s evil is not the life story that Jesus wishes for us. It happens only when we insist. As C.S. Lewis has observed, the doors of Hell are locked from the inside. Jesus’ vision for each and all of us is exquisite happiness and inspiration, now and in heaven forever.
So can we help people find their way out of the evils that are cursing their lives and into the fulfilling life that Jesus intended? Absolutely. He is the God of the universe and we are as nothing by comparison, yet He invites us to cooperate with Him in this effort. Through the ages there have been many people who have dedicated their lives to this work. Now, with the light of both Comings to guide them, a new generation of activists has put its hand to this plow and will not look back (Luke 9:62).
Who We Are
The Swedenborg Project is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian organization, incorporated in the state of Maryland. We are dedicated to effectively spreading the good news of Jesus Christ’s First and Second Comings to every corner of the world.
What We Believe
The teachings of Jesus Christ’s First Coming are found in the Divinely inspired books of the Old and New Testaments and those of His Second Coming in the Divinely inspired works revealed to and published by Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772). The teachings of both Comings are presented to the world in the Second Advent Christian Bible. (For a brief summary, see Overview.) Jesus’ Second Coming was not what people expected, just like His First Coming was not what people expected, since prophecy is always ambiguous to preserve free will.
The truths of His Comings can change our lives and make us - all of us - happy right now and forever. The foundation of Christian religious life is and always has been a relationship with Jesus Christ (See and Knowing Jesus, Loving Jesus).
What We Do
Spiritual free will is fundamental to human life. The most important free will opportunity we have is the chance to decide what we think about the teachings of Jesus’ Comings. But people are not in free will to decide about teachings they haven’t fully heard or known. The Swedenborg Project is dedicated to making sure that everyone does hear the whole Divine story, and in a meaningful way that they can use in their lives. So we work to
1. Foster conversations small and great about the truths of the First and Second Comings.
2. Experiment with improved communication models to more effectively bring those truths to the world. The central goal is to help people better understand the relationship with Jesus Christ that is the heartbeat of true Christianity. The efforts involved include developing

printing and distribution of hard-copy books
translation of the truths of Jesus’ First and Second Comings into all the world’s languages
3. Broaden our base of participation in and support of this mission.
